He was being escorted by some pretty large club bouncers. I saw him and he saw me. I was amazed, and I swear HE stopped his entourage and reached over to shake my hand. We kind of "missed hands", but even though he was being urged on by the escorts, stopped and made sure we shook. A great real moment and I don't know why he stopped, as I was leaning back against the wall to make room for the group to pass. It was almost as though he recognized me. All I can think is that he picked up on the vibe that I'm a sincere fan, or that maybe the fact that by pure coincidence, each of us was wearing a similar, mod-looking white jacket. But his powerful music, his integrity to his influences and how he has always charted his own path musically continue to impress me. Thanks Paul--there are a few of us here in the States that "get it"! And cheers to all Weller fans! |
